WOKE UP! Gender-based violence is everywhere
Preventing and combating gender violence among young people is a process that starts with the awareness that much of the violence suffered on daily basis is not identified as such.
With the intention of revealing it, WOKE UP! Gender violence is everywhere was released and launched on the occasion of November 25th, International Day for the Elimination of Gender Violence, online and on the streets of Bologna and Palermo, in Italy.
The campaign was created by the Bolognese public art agency CHEAP, and in particular by the illustrator Cristina Portolano, and aims to recognize the gender violence that threatens itself in various fields, contexts, daily gestures: at home, at school, online, in public spaces, in the unequal division of domestic labor on the basis of stereotyped gender roles, in catcalling, in sexual objectification and in the reification of bodies, in the media that reproduce the cultural forms, signs and symbols into which the system is translated patriarchy of gender violence. Gender violence is everywhere, it is transversal, it is deeply rooted in our society, in all its forms, from the most invisible to the most evident, even in the lives of adolescents.
WOKE UP! it is not a campaign simply designed for young people: it was entirely created by them, and in particular by 6 groups of teenagers from the European countries that are partners of the REBOOT NOW project.
The European initiative financed by the CERV program of the European Commission aims to prevent and combat gender violence through a combination of psychological support actions and educational activities in schools. Among these actions was the co-creation of the campaign. In recent months, led by CHEAP professionals and the Fondazione Centro Studi Villa Montesca of Città di Castello, the different groups have met in person and online to discuss the impact of gender violence in their lives and the importance of promoting mental health at school and among young people.
REBOOT NOW
REBOOT NOW is a EU-funded initiative, active in Italy, Greece, Cyprus, Slovenia and Bulgaria, aiming to address challenges concerning children’s wellbeing, mental health and safety in general, but particularly their increased exposure to gender-based violence (GBV) and the foreseeable difficulty to create safe and healthy relationships.
REBOOT NOW is funded by the Citizens, Equality, Rights and Values Programme (CERV) of the European Commission (2021-2027).
