Youth Advisory Board

The Youth Advisory Board (YAB) is a group of young people aged 15 to 25 who collaborate with CESIE ETS, the organisation behind The Gender Talk.

Together, we work to understand, from the ground up, the real needs of people their age and to identify possible solutions and new ideas for action.

In simple terms, they act as a bridge between generations: they listen, observe and help us build connections between different perspectives, languages and ways of seeing the world.

The Youth Advisory Board is important because it helps us better understand the needs of younger people and communicate with them more effectively. It also reflects our belief in the value of active participation and mutual learning between young people and adults: when people truly listen to each other, everyone grows.

The topics they work on are wide-ranging and central to young people’s wellbeing, including gender identity, violence prevention, LGBTQIA+ rights, child protection, mental wellbeing, and sexuality and relationships education.

Do you also believe in the value of youth participation?

By working alongside adults involved in different initiatives, YAB members take part in:

Designing activities and interventions for other young people.

Planning activities in Palermo or online.

Delivering training sessions for other young people (both peers and younger groups), in Palermo or online.

Participating in international training activities and study visits to develop both thematic knowledge and self-confidence.

What has the YAB done so far?

    • Acted as advisors in the implementation of activities addressing teen dating violence (Children First).
    • Contributed to the development of project proposals focused on young people (REBOOT NOW).
    • Supported the creation of this platform for young people and educators, The Gender Talk.
