Video created by students, barely three minutes long. It went viral and had a great reach. Authorization was even requested by the Confederation of Music Education Associations of Spain for its broadcasting in high schools.
""Hit her, whip her. Without fear, she doesn't do anything and look at her, if she smiles she likes it"", with these words the video begins. It highlights messages of violence and discrimination against women in the lyrics of some songs, and also invites audiences to think about the consumption and support they give to this type of material. ""For love I dream of you, for love I gave myself, to love you I would be capable of all suffering"" ""I want a beautiful woman, quiet and who doesn't say anything to me, who when I leave at night and come back in the morning doesn't say anything to me and even if she doesn't like it she stays quiet"", are some of the words mentioned by the young people that, said without melodies, are unfamiliar. Then, they are accompanied by the rhythm and musical arrangements that have made them popular all over the world. They have been danced and hummed by many people, but few have stopped to observe their message.
Music is a powerful transmitter of culture that, in the same way, can be used as a means and tool to raise awareness and coeducation for the prevention of gender violence. In the case of this video, its use can be recommended in formal, non-formal and informal educational spaces for reflection and critical thinking exercises on the construction of the social imaginary through music. How many songs do you know that send discriminatory, sexist messages?
